Fourth International Small Teapot Competition and Chinese Guest Artist at Saddleback College
Mission Viejo – The Saddleback College Art Gallery is pleased to sponsor the Fourth International Small Teapot Competition from February 11 through March 11. Over 300 teapots were entered into the competition representing 10 countries including China, Mexico, Israel, Canada, Australia, and the United States. On display are 95 selected works from the competition. One pot will be selected as the “Best of Show” and its creator will receive the grand prize of a tour of ceramics sites in China.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Wednesday, Noon to 4 pm and Thursday, 4 to 8 pm. The Gallery will also be open Saturday, February 20th, 10 am to 2 pm. An Artists’ Reception, sponsored by the Saddleback College Foundation, will be held on February 11th, 6 to 9 pm. Chinese dim sum and several types of tea will be served. Award-winning pots will be announced at the reception. For this event, free parking will be provided in parking lot #12 adjacent to the gallery.
As a part of the event, Mr. Zhangfa Qian, from Yixing, China, is this year’s artist-in-residence from February 25 through March 25, 2010. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Qian will demonstrate ceramic techniques in sculpture and pottery. In addition, he will offer a two-day workshop in the Saddleback College Sculpture Studio.
Saddleback College is located at 28000 Marguerite Pkwy in Mission Viejo, just east of Interstate 5 at the Avery Parkway exit. Parking is available in Lot 12. Take Avery Parkway to Marguerite Parkway turn left to the third traffic light, which is Saddleback’s Marguerite entrance. Turn right into the campus and take the third left to “Theatre Circle,” turning right into Lot 12
